The People’s Princess

16x20

Acrylic on canvas

I referenced a royal portrait painting for the composition, clothing, and pose in this artwork of my original character, Raika. This artwork best represents who I am as an artist - someone who enjoys applying edgy and modern twists on more traditional techniques.

Nail Polish Still Life

16x20

Pencil on paper

This piece refined my skills in observational drawing. I chose an array of nail polish bottles to reflect my love for fashion and self expression. This ties back into my affinity for adding my own twist to traditionally simple or conservative subjects.

Sunday Girl

16x20

Acrylic and resin on canvas

This mixed-media work features concept art of my original character, Raika. I painted in a semi-realistic style but left the hair minimally rendered in order to use embellishments. I created my own resin accessories using silicone molds, resin, alcohol paints, and charms to showcase her personality. I carefully placed each one and secured it to the canvas with additional resin.

Distortion

16x20

Acrylic, paint pens, and piercing jewelry on canvas

I was inspired by a fellow artist to make this painting. I began painting the neon faces while referencing various styles to reflect my love of fashion and musical icons. To make the neon colors pop, I painted the background black and filled the empty space with white paint pen. I used a needle and piercing jewelry to add body modifications that enhanced each face’s uniqueness and added three-dimensionality to the work.

Sketchbook Spreads

8.5x11

Mixed media

These sketchbook pages reflect my enjoyment of collaging and fashion. I often draw my characters in outfits I’ve designed from various photos I take inspiration from. When I make a collage piece, I often use insignificant things that would normally be discarded, such as receipts, clothing tags, fruit stickers, etc.

Raika Reference Sheet

13x12

Program used - Clip Studio Paint

This is a reference sheet for my original character Raika. She is my most frequently drawn character as well as the most developed. She’s the drummer for a fictional band by the name of Testosterone. This sheet shows her body type as well as an outfit she wears during a live performance.

Yana Reference Sheet

13x12

Program used - Clip Studio Paint

This is a reference sheet of my original character, Yana. They’re the rhythm guitarist for a fictional band I created by the name of PYRE:THE SERPENT. I included her body type and tattoos as well as a casual outfit that reflects the kind of clothing she would typically wear.

Bowie Reference Sheet

13x12

Program used - Clip Studio Paint

This is a reference sheet for my original character, Bowie. The main reason behind his creation was my fascination for Japanese gyaru/gal fashion and culture. He’s a photographer and occasional competitive figure skater who enjoys maximalism in every regard.

Ballerina Study

8.5x11

Charcoal on paper

This was drawn during a summer anatomy class. I referenced a photo of a ballerina and did a quick sketch that I later went back to clean up and add detail to.

Nude Figure Study

18x24

Charcoal on paper

This was done during a pre-college program in a live figure drawing class. I used a mixture of black and white charcoal to mix and create different values.

Locum Tutum

11.5x17

Ink on paper

This is a zine I created based off of the prompt “safe space”. Instead of taking the prompt literally, my goal was to focus on how sometimes a person can provide the same feeling as a safe space. I used my two original characters, Raziel and Mars, to convey this.

Patches

4.5x4

Heat pressed cut contour on recycled T-shirt

The patches themselves are cut from an old T-shirt, and the designs were heat-pressed on. I used the Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop cut contour method to print out the designs, which were both drawn in Adobe Illustrator. These patches are part of a larger project, where I sew various patches onto a jacket in order to customize it and make it my own.

Timeline

15x8

Program used - Clip Studio Paint

This is a character timeline I created to show the drastic change in my original character Raika’s appearance over the duration of the story. I wanted to express this as well as her gender journey and the evolution of her fashion choices.

Jaz Rotation

13x10

Program used - Clip Studio Paint

This is a character rotation of my original character Jaz. I aimed to mimic the style of 2000s cartoons such as Daria, Total Drama Island, and 6teen. I wanted to experiment with a style very different from my own.

Break

12x11

Program used - Clip Studio Paint

This is a photo of my character Jaz taken during his break time while working a shift at a bar. I wanted to capture the aesthetic of a 1990s club scene, which he often frequents.

Jaz’s Room

11.5x17

Micron on paper

This is a two-point perspective drawing of my character Jaz’s bedroom. Being an individual in his 20s living in the 1990s, I found various articles displaying photos of bedrooms from said time period to get an idea of what these personal spaces were like. I wanted the room to also reflect his interests, like music.

Coronation

6x11

Program used - Clip Studio Paint

I challenged myself to use elements from a Pinterest board to piece together a design for a character. This is the result of that challenge, which depicts a coronation scene in a monochromatic color palette.

Funk

11x9

Program used - Clip Studio Paint

This is an outfit lineup of my original character, Milia. The story he’s a part of primarily takes place in the 1980s, so I channeled the gothic aesthetic of the time.

Goth Night

12x11

Program used - Clip Studio Paint

This is a photo of my original character Milia while performing a gig. He’s part of an electronic music duo and often channeled a gothic/new wave style, which I referenced photos of artists from the time to draw inspiration from.

Regalia

8x11

Program used - Clip Studio Paint

My goal was to design an outfit for this character that reflected his identity as a drag queen and a Blackfoot Native American. I referenced photos of Blackfoot grass dance regalia outfits as well as photos of various drag queens. I combined the multiple elements to create a drag look that focused on his indigenous culture.
